E-commerce For Beginners

You might not know exactly what eCommerce is yet or you may have heard of it, but don’t know how it works…. To put it simply eCommerce is an online store. That’s it… Nothing special… just a place where people go online to buy stuff. Wal-Mart has an eCommerce site as well as Target, K-mart, Lowes, Best Buy, etc…. Well, you get the picture. So, how does a beginner make their own eComm store??? It’s so simple today with so many resources that it almost sounds too good to be true… I’m sure you’ve seen advertisements on YouTube and Facebook pushing wolf mugs and kitten trinkets. Convincing you that anyone can become a millionaire with Shopify. All you need to do is build your own store.

Well, they’re right. Sort of… Those annoying ads and relentless marketers are pushing Shopify, because it’s never been easier for someone to start an online business. It’s literally a click of a button and a matter dragging and dropping your store in place. Literally a matter of minutes to build your own online store!

Here are the steps:

  1. Open a Shopify account
  2. Choose a template and instantly create a legitimate looking store
  3. Download a Chrome extension called “Oberlo”
  4. Go to a website called “Alliexpress”
  5. Choose 10-20 items that you want to sell in your store and instantly download them into your store with “Oberlo” (pictures and all)
  6. Re-write the copy, so the products match your Brand
  7. Run Facebook ads targeting people that like your product.

Just like that you have an online business!

Now, in theory that sounds super easy and exciting to do, but let me give you fair warning. It is STILL A BUSINESS! Things still go wrong and you have to keep a close eye on things. Just because it’s easy to setup, doesn’t mean it doesn’t take work to maintain.

Yes, you are buying from China and there are long lead times for them to ship them to your customer. Yes, there are shipping errors and China doesn’t always put your store name on the product.
